Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese Medicine technique that involves the stimulation of points on the body through the insertion of small, sterilized needles to achieve a therapeutic effect. Anatomical acupuncture refers to the approach taken today by western-trained healthcare providers and combines the knowledge of traditional acupuncture with western-learned anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology. Acupuncture points are located along meridians, which are invisible pathways that carry energy and blood throughout the body. Stimulating these points increases blood flow while at the same time triggering the activity of our own body’s natural painkillers. Acupuncture encourages natural healing and can decrease inflammation, normalize the nervous system, and allow for tissue regeneration. It is safe and effective and is often successfully used as an alternative to medications and an adjunct to physiotherapy and chiropractic treatment techniques. Our practitioners have received their training in acupuncture from such reputable organizations such as the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute and the McMaster University Contemporary Medical Acupuncture Program. Only sterile single use disposable needles are used. All acupuncture needles are properly disposed of after each treatment.
